Dear Scout Parent,

The troop is getting ready to start a new set of four lessons on cooking led by Mrs. Richmond.  The scouts who do not have Cooking Merit Badge will be able to complete most of the requirements if they attend all four Wednesday night session.  ALL scouts should plan on attending even if they have the merit badge.  We will be teaching basic cooking skills that each scout can use when he moves out on his own!

There will be four lessons and each scout will need to bring some items to be prepared for the cooking lesson.  We will have a few extras if you forget one week, but if everyone forgets we will be short supplies.  If you can bring extras of the needed supplies each week, it would be greatly appreciated.  In addition, we are asking for your help in making sure that some activities get completed at home so that your scout gets practice with his newly learned skills.  Each week the scouts will get a handout on what “practice activities” they need to work on in the coming week.

One of the activities we are asking for your help on is dishes.  We would like for each scout to do the dishes for his household during the four weeks we are doing the cooking lessons.  Getting dishes clean is one of the worst problems we have on our outings so we are hoping that by getting practice on both how we cook and how we clean that each scout will improve in both cooking and cleaning.  If you have a dishwasher, we are suggesting that you actually have your scout do dishes by hand with dish soap and a dish drainer.  We don’t have dishwashers on campouts, so loading a dishwasher won’t help teach the scouts how to do dishes by hand!
